Collection: Théo Marchand

Marchand trained as an architect in Marseille before shifting into painting, drawn to the idea of designing buildings freely. His paintings take real architectural forms — housing blocks, overpasses, transit structures — and simplify them into bold geometric planes, often cropped so tightly that the structure reads as pure abstraction before it resolves into something recognisable. He works from his own photographs, taken early in the morning when the light is low and the streets are quiet, and enjoys finding a kind of monumental beauty in ordinary, everyday buildings. "Nobody photographs a parking garage," he laughs, "but I think it can hold a wall just as well as anything else."
