Neumann trained as a botanical illustrator in Berlin before abandoning precision for suggestion. Her pastel abstracts distill leaf, stem, and petal into soft washes and negative space. Her paintings translate that instinct into abstraction. She works slowly, often returning to the same specimen across several studies until the form becomes simplified almost to a suggestion. "I'm not trying to paint a flower anymore," she says. "I'm trying to paint what's left of it in your memory a week later."
